The Eagle & The Star is a game about Polish - Soviet War
in 1919-1920. This war was a turning point of history not only for Poland, which
saved its just regained independence. It was also very important for the whole
Europe, because Polish victory stopped the spread of communist revolution. Some
of historians recognize the Battle of Warsaw in 1920 as 18th most decisive
battle of the world. Fall of Poland in this war could let communists to fulfill
Lenins and Trotskys plan of invasion of Western Europe and the rest of the world
afterwards.
The Eagle & The Star is a reconstruction of this
historical campaign. Player can play as Bolshevik commander, Mikhail
Tukhachevsky, trying to defeat the Polish forces, seize the territories of
Poland, Ukraine and Belarus, and establish the communist regime there. As a
Polish supreme commander Józef Pilsudski, you can try to stop the Soviet
invasion and establish the eastern border in favor of Poland.
The
original game mechanics was elaborated for 2 years. In the opinion of the
authors the effect of this work is flexible and applicative mechanics, which can
be used in other games. The Eagle & The Star is the first one in planned
games cycle. The rulebook is lavishly illustrated. Numerous examples make the
game rules easy to learn. The game was tested and consulted with the most
experienced boardgames players.
Instead of traditional counters - wooden
blocks are used. It enables player to have a full image of the battlefield.
Friendly units are fully visible, the opposite player sees only a general
position of the enemy forces.
Dices are not used, but multifunctional
cards provide random effects to the game. Game mechanics is based on orders
given by player to his units. Players can deduce attempts of the enemy commander
but also they can feint and bluff. Historical scenarios and comments give an
opportunity to understand this part of the world history
better.
